BOILER PRESSURE VESSEL INSURANCE

Introduction

Boilers and Steam apparatus may be insured either together with the other machines under the Machinery Breakdown Policy, or if desired on its own through the Boiler Explosion Policy.

A Boiler stores up substantial energy which on being released by explosion causes extensive damage and sometimes injury. Therefore it needs little imagination to visualize the serious consequences of a major boiler explosion.

Types of Plant which may be insured.

• Hospital  - Steam Boilers, economizers and super heaters, steam piping for the Distribution of steam
• Laundries - Steam Boilers, Presses
• Bakery - Steam Tube, baking ovens, Dough mixers and kneaders, Cake mixers.

Scope of Cover

The Policy Cover :

• Damage to the Boiler or other apparatus described in the Schedule
• Damage to auxillaries and surrounding property e.g. buildings and machinery.
• Liability of the Insured at law for fatal or non-fatal injuries sustained by any third party.
• Liability of the Insured at law for damage to property belonging to third parties not in the custody or control of the insured.

Caused By:

Explosion:
Meaning the sudden & violent rending or tearing apart of the permanent structure of a boiler or other apparatus by force of internal steam or fluid pressure.

Collapse:
Meaning the sudden and dangerous distortion of any part of a boiler or other apparatus by bending or crushing caused by steam or fluid pressure.

Note: Explosions or collapse are also covered when occurring as a result of external impact or fire.

Legal expenses are covered where legal proceedings in connection with a claim have been instituted.
